Popsicle sticks,markers,empty container,construction paper,stickers
I found that it was difficult to teach my children to pray. They would always pray the same thing, without much thought or feeling, so I came up with the idea of "prayer sticks." I took popsicle sticks, wrote the names of different prayers on them, decorated an empty frosting container with construction paper and stickers, and placed the prayer sticks inside of them. Now, at mealtime, my 4 -year-old daughter picks a prayer, my 6 year-old son reads what the stick says, and we all pray together. This idea can be adapted for home or a classroom.
Here are examples of prayers on our prayer sticks:,"God is great, Good is good..." "We fold our hands..." (...and bow our head and thank the Lord for this good bread)" Sing the "Johnny Appleseed prayer.",Pick a prayer from our prayer book.
